Trainings for employees in City Hall of the City of Belgrade

Trainings for employees in City Hall of the City of Belgrade

With the support of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Labris has started the initiative "Networking for the improvement of the position of LGBT persons in Serbia", whose main goal is to promote human rights of LGBT people in Serbia, to open up political dialogue and to encourage the use of the existing legislative framework in Serbia and international standards in the process of joining the European Union. For that reason, Labris has established a Network for the prevention of discrimination and support of LGBT persons in seven Cities in the Republic of Serbia (Belgrade, Niš, Kragujevac, Pančevo, Novi Sad, Novi Pazar and Subotica).

As part of the activities of Belgrade Network for the prevention of discrimination and support of LGBT persons, trainings for employees in City Hall of the City of Belgrade were designed and will be implemented in March 2017 in the City Hall.
In order to sensitize employees in this institution to work with LGBT persons, we have talked about: LGBTTIQ terminology, LGBT rights, personal data protection, coming out, transsexual existence and social mechanisms of homophobia.

The topic that had an important place in these trainings is the processing and protection of personal data that has its specifics when it comes to LGBT people. There are particular challenges in the area of personal data change with persons who have changed gender and in the issuance of Free marriage status statements for persons entering the same sex civil union/marriage outside the Republic of Serbia.
