A PLACE TO GO: Labris launches a campaign to establish an emergency support fund for LBTQ women leaving violence

From 4 November to 14 December 2026, Labris is running the “A Place to Go” campaign, aiming to raise RSD 425,000 for an Emergency Support Fund for lesbians and other LBTQ women leaving violence. The funds raised will provide temporary safe accommodation, transportation to a safe location, and emergency support packages for women who need assistance most.

Imagine you have to leave your home urgently tonight. You are no longer safe. You cannot stay. As you hurriedly pack a few essential belongings, there is only one question going through your mind:

Where can I go tonight?

Many women in this situation can call their family, friends, or someone close to them – someone whose place they can stay at while figuring out what to do next. Many lesbians and other LBTQ women do not have that option.

Some are rejected by their families because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Some fear judgment and discrimination. Some cannot afford transportation, temporary accommodation, or even the most basic necessities for the first few days after leaving.

When violence becomes unbearable, and they finally decide to leave, the hardest part is only beginning.

A woman has found the strength to leave. But she has nowhere to go.

When a woman decides to leave, support cannot wait

For 30 years, Labris has been working with the community, providing free psychological and legal support to lesbians and other LBTQ women, and running an SOS helpline for women facing violence, discrimination, and rejection. Through our everyday conversations with them, we hear the same story time and again: a woman has decided to leave violence behind, but she lacks the resources to do so safely.

That is why we are establishing an Emergency Support Fund for lesbians and other LBTQ women leaving violence.

The Fund is designed to provide practical assistance in crisis situations, when leaving violence is necessary, but resources for the first steps are lacking. Its purpose is to enable women to access temporary safe accommodation, transportation to a safe location, and essential supplies during the first days after leaving violence.

Through the “A Place to Go” campaign, running from 4 November to 14 December 2026, we aim to raise RSD 425,000 to cover the Fund’s beneficiaries' needs during its first ten months of operation.

The funds raised will be allocated to three types of emergency support:

  • RSD 297,500 (70%) − temporary safe accommodation in crisis situations;
  • RSD 42,500 (10%) − transportation to safe accommodation or another safe location;
  • RSD 85,000 (20%) − emergency support packages including food, hygiene products, and other basic necessities during the first days after leaving violence.

This is not a permanent solution, but it can make the greatest difference when support is needed most. Every donation helps ensure that a woman has a safe place, time to catch her breath, and an opportunity to make a plan for a life free from violence.

Support the “A Place to Go” campaign

We invite individuals, organizations, collectives, and companies to support the campaign and help us provide resources for the Fund.

Donations can be made:

  • Directly to Labris’ bank account:
  • Account holder: Labris − Organization for Lesbian Human Rights
  • Bank: NLB Komercijalna banka A.D., Belgrade
  • Account number: 205-0000000044366-74
  • Payment reference: Da ima gde da ode
  • Through the Donacije.rs platform, via the campaign page: [DONATION LINK].

Every donation, regardless of its amount, contributes to ensuring that a woman leaving violence receives practical support when she needs it most.

You don't need to donate a large amount for your support to matter. Every donation helps make assistance available when it cannot wait.

If you can't donate right now, please share the campaign with your friends, family, and colleagues. Sometimes a single share can connect someone to support that changes their life.

We cannot change what happened to her. But together, we can help ensure she does not have to take the next step alone.

A place to go.
